This was a fun photo to make. Focusing on the glass allowed the Christmas tree lights to blur and give it a nice bokeh effect. Technical data: ISO 200, f/4, .3 sec. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a lovely holiday season.

Sometimes I like to take my photography to another artistic level in Photoshop. Using filters is an easy and creative way to make something new. The poster edges filter is one of my favorites. By first converting for smart filters, you give yourself the option of tweaking your image. These two images were taken at the local airport during a special fly-in breakfast. The borders were created by making a style using layer styles with a stroke and bevel and saving it.

I noticed this chipping paint on my garage the other day. The more I looked at it, the more it reminded me of a face so I grabbed my camera and began photographing. There was very little color in the original image so I converted it to black and white using Silver Efex Pro. This one's in honor of my friend Sam, who can find faces in anything. Technical data: ISO 100, F/11, 1/90 sec.

mud

Sometimes the most unlikely subjects make the most interesting photographs. I found a patch of mud on the sidewalk near my home. The layers of dark and light made patterns that just begged to be photographed. I used a 70-300 zoom and an ISO of 200. Keep your eyes and mind open for possibilities and you'll find them.

leaves

This is a photo of a skunk cabbage. I was really drawn to the shape and textures of this plant. As in many of my previous photos, less is more. Technical data: ISO 200, f 5.6,1/45 sec.

Here are two very different images. One a still life (my favorite kind of photo) and the other an outdoor snow scene. I was attracted to the simplicity of the shadows in the outdoor scene. Technical data: ISO 100, f16 at 1/90 sec. The pocket watch belonged to my grandfather and held lots of interest for me growing up. I like the dramatic lighting. Technical data: ISO 200, f13, .3sec.

icicles

Here is an image of the icicles on my roof shot out the window. The blue sky made a colorful background and the sunlight reflecting off the ice added a nice touch.

winter multiple exposure

Finally, my first post in a new year. Here is an image that received the multiple exposure treatment. This is 9 shots taken in camera. Inspired by Tony Sweet, I moved the camera in very small increments to achieve this effect. Since the photo was almost monochromatic to start with, I used Silver Efex Pro to convert it to black and white. Technical Data: f4, 1/30 sec., ISO 100.
